How they met, what they argue about, the flat with the broken boiler. A poem about this couple beats a poem about marriage in general every time.
Write it for the ear
It will be heard once, standing up, possibly through a bad microphone. Short sentences. No clause that needs re-reading. Read it aloud before you commit to it.
Decide who you are speaking to
A reading addresses the room. A card addresses the couple. A vow addresses one person. They are three different poems and mixing them is what makes a wedding poem feel off.
What to avoid
